Judge Erica K Dove serves as the Presiding Judge of Gwinnett State Court, Division 5.  She was elected in 2022 by the citizens of Gwinnett County and is seeking re-election.

About Judge Dove

Meet Judge Dove

Judge Dove’s goal is to continue to serve the citizens of Gwinnett County as State Court Judge of Division 5. Assuring that she will always work hard, serve with integrity and rule with impartiality.  

Judge Dove moved to Georgia in 1980 and has been a resident of Gwinnett County since 1981.  She attended Beaver Ridge Elementary, Sweetwater Middle, and Meadowcreek High schools. Go Mustangs!   After high school, she attended Howard University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in the Administration of Justice. After graduation, returning to Georgia to work for a law office for several years. After working in the legal field for several years she knew the desire to be an attorney was confirmed, so she returned to Washington, D.C. to attend Howard University School of Law.
 
Judge Dove passed the Georgia Bar in 2002 and began her career at King & Spalding, LLC.  Later serving as an Assistant Solicitor-General, prosecuting misdemeanors in the State Court of Gwinnett County.  In addition to serving as a prosecutor in State Court for 10 years, she served as a prosecutor in several Municipal Courts, including Norcross, Suwanee, and Lilburn. In 2015, she established her own law firm, practicing criminal defense, divorce, and Social Security Disability. In addition to running her own law firm, she served as an Associate Municipal Court Judge in the cities of Lilburn and Chamblee and pro tem Judge in Norcross.
 
A large part of Judge Dove’s practice involved helping indigent people accused of misdemeanors navigate the court system.  Having also served as an advocate for Veterans in our Veterans Court and having worked with defendants in the Gwinnett Mental Health Diversion program.  Since 2015, she handled over 1,000 matters in Gwinnett State Court alone. Today, she continues to serve in Gwinnett’s Veteran’s Court, hosting Gwinnett’s S.M.I.L.E. program for the youth, participating in the Gwinnett 101 experience, and as a graduate of Gwinnett’s Glance and Leadership Gwinnett programs.
 
Judge Dove continues to give back to the community in numerous ways. In her free time, she also volunteers for several non-profit and civic organizations that serve the Gwinnett County community, as well as serving as a board member with STRAP (Seeking the Right Amendable Path) Mentor Program, as well as Restoring Hearts For the Brave.
